Guayaquil is the city with the most shopping centres and plazas in the country. There are more than thirty, starting with Policentro in 1979. It is like every year a new one has been opened. Shopping centres started in 1979 with the Policentro. This concept of many shops under one roof has been lived in the city for more than four decades. Almost year after year they have been expanding in every developing area of Guayaquil.

Guayaquil is one of the top shopping destinations in Ecuador due to the city’s large number of shopping malls, department stores, retail chains and independent boutiques.

To write a description of each would be an endless topic. However, enough information is shared about places and areas where a wide variety of small and personal boutiques are housed that are not found anywhere else.

Shopping here is not just limited to souvenirs and sweatshirts. Shops have interesting, fresh and creative specialities in clothing, design, jewellery, knick-knacks, vintage, homewares, music and much more. There are also dozens of restaurants and cafés in a very relaxed atmosphere..
